Travel Cruise Tips
Going on vacation with the family can be stressful, but there are ways you can make the experience as stress-free as possible if you’re smart – like going on a cruise. A cruise can take all of the hard work and stress out of a vacation with the kids. If you want to see the different sights, you can introduce your kids to a new place every day without having to move hotels. It’s all very convenient, which is why families go on cruises together all the time. On larger ships, you can easily keep the kids entertained with kids clubs and activities, and you can just lay back and read a book if you want to. Even traveling couples can have lots of fun together on a cruise.
All that being said, you need to make sure you take the time to choose the right ship for your cruise. Not all ships are created equal, and they will directly affect the experience you have. Here are the questions you need to ask before booking up that cruise:
1. Am I Willing To Budget For Gratuities?
Gratuities are service charges you’ll either find among the extras or bundled in there. Some charges are even added to guest’s accounts per day. It’s a good idea to find out what the daily service charge will be so you don’t end up with any nasty surprises at the end of your stay. If you want to avoid surprises altogether, you could opt to pay the total beforehand so you don’t have to worry about this at all when you’re enjoying your cruise.
2. Have I Packed The Right Kind Of Clothes?
Cruises are definitely becoming more casual, but you could still end up with the odd formal night on your cruise, so make sure you check the dress code. In some cases, it’s compulsory to dress up in your best clothes for dinner. Make sure you’ve packed the right clothes so you don’t have anything to worry about.
3. Is It A Good Idea To Buy Excursions Before We Go?
Cruise ships are becoming trips in themselves, however, going on excursions mean exploring and discovery like never before. You don’t want to get on board and realize an amazing excursion has sold out, so make sure you plan what you’d like to do and book what you can in advance so your trip is exactly as you imagine it to be. This website can give you an idea of some of the sort of things you can see and do on a cruise, as well as excursions you can take. There’s a cruise for absolutely every age and taste!
4. Is There A Kids’ Club On Board?
If you’re planning on traveling with your kids, then finding out if there’s a children’s program on board will mean you can also have quality time with your spouse and any other adults joining you on your trip. Many of the kids’ clubs are divided into different age groups, with their own club rooms and different features. However, kids must usually be at least 3 years old and able to use the potty to use the children’s program. Because of this, it might not be a good idea to take toddlers on a cruise with you.
5. What Activities Are There For Kids?
Now, there’s a chance that even if there is a kid’s club on board, your child won’t like it. If this is the case, you’re going to need other plans so that they feel happy on the cruise too. What other activities can your kids take part in? Will they be able to play mini golf, soccer, or something else? Is there a pool? Some ships even have activities for both parents and children to enjoy.
If you plan on letting your child use the pool, you’ll need to make sure their age and swimming ability are suitable. Kids can’t usually swim in diapers, and they won’t usually have lifeguards at them either.
6. How Big Will My Cabin Be?
A lot of people who end up going on a cruise are shocked to find that their cabins are pretty small. Wide angle lenses used on the sites can be misleading and make the rooms look bigger than they are! Make sure you ask about square footage so you can get a better picture in your head of how much space you’re going to have. Getting a balcony, regardless of cabin size, is a great idea as it’ll allow you a little peace and quiet all your own.
7. Will I Be Able To Eat When I Want To In The Evening?
A cruise will allow families to do what they like during the day and then come together to eat at night. However, many ships will give you the choice of early dinner seating or late dinner seating, so you will have to choose which time is best for you. If you do choose not to eat at those hours, you’ll have to ask what kinds of food will be available. A buffet will usually be on at all times.
8. Is There An Adults Only Pool Or An Adults Only Hot Tub?
You’ll need to find out whether there is something like this for your specific ship. On occasion, you’ll find that the only adult pool is inside the spa and you will only be able to use it at an additional charge.
9. What Do Families Do In Each Port?
Some ships do offer excursions that are kid-friendly. For those that don’t seem all that kid-friendly you can sometimes leave them on the ship at kid’s club, but sometimes you can’t. It all depends. You can arrange independent excursions if you want to, but you must remember that ships will only wait around for excursions coming back that were booked through the line. If they are not associated with the cruise, they won’t wait for you, so you must be on time.
Ask these questions before booking up that cruise and you should find yourself on the best cruise ship!
