First-Timers in New York City

A trip to New York is a dream for many travelers, but it isn’t the easiest city to stay in or navigate. It’s huge, always crowded, loud, and it’s many tourist attractions are both a gift and a curse. That being said, New York City is also a magical place, and if you’re planning a city break, it should definitely be at the top of your list. To help you survive the trip, here are some helpful tips for you to follow.

Venture Outside Manhattan

Manhattan is great, but there is so much more to New York than this one borough, like the four other ones. Of course, each of the boroughs has its downsides, but if you’re looking for somewhere a little more affordable and diverse, then Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island all deserve some love too. If you’re heading on a trip to New York City, and only plan on visiting Manhattan, then you’re not really going to see New York.

Ride The Subway (Or Walk)

In films and television shows, hailing a cab in NYC and getting to where you need to go seems like a relatively quick and easy process. Unfortunately, the reality is very different. The traffic in New York City is absolutely crazy, and taxis are really expensive, so heading to the subway is often a much better bet. Just make sure that you check a map before heading down, as you may find that walking will get you to your destination much quicker than any subway would.

Stay Outside The City

If you want to get away from the crowds for a little while or just want to find somewhere a little more affordable to stay, then there is nothing wrong with booking a hotel outside the city, like Crowne Plaza Suffern – Mahwah, which is about an hour away. Of course, it will take longer to get to where you want to go in the morning and get back in the evening, but this is a price that many travelers are willing to pay for a more affordable trip.

Don’t Stare At Celebs

The one things that you need to understand about New York is that it is home to a lot of celebrities. If you bump into one while you’re out and about, it may be tempting to ask for an autograph or sneak a picture, but most locals frown upon this. Of course, if this is a once in a lifetime trip, and you’re not too fussed about a few disapproving looks, then go ahead.

Give Yourself Enough Time

New York is huge and is filled to the brim with attractions, and you’re never going to see all of them in one trip, so it might be time to curb your expectations. Despite this, you can get a lot done, as long as you give yourself enough time to do it. At the very least, this should be a few days, but a week gives you a little more time to enjoy yourself.

If you’re heading to the magical city known as New York City for the first time anytime soon, make sure you bear these tips in mind, to help you survive the trip.
