Staycations are breaks where people relax indoors for the most part, with outdoor activities being mostly restricted to nearby locations. Relaxation is the idea behind this concept, as you are supposed to take a vacation from stress itself. With that in mind, let’s now focus on five things that you should do on a staycation to make the experience more relaxing and enjoyable.
1. Make Your Bed More Comfortable
Since resting is a big part of the whole staycation experience, take advantage of the upcoming Labor Day mattress sale to upgrade your bed and make it infinitely more comfortable for your back and neck. While you are at it, snag up some new memory foam pillows alongside the new mattress. As far as pillows are concerned, down-filled is not a bad choice, but it cannot provide responsive support like high-quality memory foam can.
Put the pillows in silk pillowcases, cover the mattress with a nice cotton/linen bedsheet (300 – 500 thread count), and you are done. The best part about making the bed more comfortable is that the benefits stretch beyond just those few days of the break. Waking up after a night of restful sleep is going to feel even more blissful on a workday.
2. Check Out a Local Attraction or Two
Most of us are surprised by how much of our own city we are not familiar with when we realize it for the first time. It is always nice to discover a great place nearby that you had no idea existed so close to you. Depending on who you are and what kind of activities/locations you like, it can be anything from a new café you were planning to visit, an old museum that you never visited, or perhaps just a short stretch of a hiking trail that you never knew existed in the woods nearby.
3. Plan a Small Social Gathering
It could be an evening garden party, a morning barbeque, or an indoor get-together. The idea is to invite some of the people you like over to your place, hang out with them, and have a party together.
4. Plan Family Activities
If you have young kids, this is just as important for you as it is for them. They must be made a part of the staycation because parents taking a break and staying home excites children with the hope of getting to spend more time with their folks. Take them out to an amusement park and get involved in the games that they like there, or stay inside and play a few rounds of video games with the child. Spending more time with your children can be more relaxing than we realize.
5. Indulge a Little in Romantic Dinners
Did you know that you can enjoy the delicacies of fine red wine and adequately paired homecooked dishes at home for a fraction of what it would cost you to enjoy the same in a restaurant? In fact, this is not that difficult or expensive to pull off either, so add a bit of flair to your staycation by preparing a romantic dinner for your partner.
Bottom Line
We often believe that a break should not be wasted at home, forgetting that the term “break” should mean rest and rejuvenation in this case. The flights, rides, hikes and everything else in the journey are often enough to tire people out, and if you have an adventure planned, you will need a few more off days to recover from that rock climbing or rafting fatigue. Sometimes, a staycation is far more relaxing than any standard vacation, especially when you are tired and need to catch up on rest.
