Ultimate Skopje Vegan & Vegetarian Food Guide
Over the last few years, tourism has drastically increased in Skopje, North Macedonia. As not all travelers are the same, the need for vegan and vegetarian restaurants has also increased in Skopje. I personally am neither vegan nor vegetarian, but many Airbnb guests that have stayed at Milena’s place have asked about vegan or vegetarian options around Skopje at one point or another. So, the idea of the “Vegan & Vegetarian Food Guide
” was born.
Milena and I set out exploring the city to do research to find the best options for both vegan and vegetarian places to eat around Skopje. We were looking for restaurants in either category, bars or cafes that offer vegan or vegetarian options, and lastly, restaurants that have standard Macedonian food on their menus with mixed options for vegan or vegetarian dishes.
In order to make the reading easier and more comprehensive, we decided to categorize the restaurants in several sections; this way, you can easily find just the type of restaurant and/or shop you’re looking for.
Vegan Restaurants
Vegan 365 Kitchen – Located on Boulevard Saint Clement of Ohrid, near The Church of Saint Clement of Ohrid, this small family business is a must-visit spot for vegans and vegetarians. There have been open ever since 2017 and their menu features falafel, vegeburgers, soy burgers, vegan desserts, vegan coffee and fresh juices. Directions for Vegan 365 Kitchen
Harmony – This is another place for those looking for vegan food Skopje spots. They also offer macrobiotic options on their menu, which is filled with sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Restaurant Harmony is located near the Greek Embassy in Porta Bunjakovec on Gjuro Gjakovik Street. Directions for Harmony
BistRaw Zdravo Zivo – Serving Vegas, American, Italian and raw dishes, BistRaw is surely establishing itself as a top spot for vegan food in Skopje. In addition to great-looking and tasty dishes, BistRaw also boasts with lots of promotions such as Tasty Thursdays and 50% OFF Fridays. Directions for BistRaw Zdravo Zivo
Vega Fresh Bar – Vega Fresh Bar is a great place to feed your belly, but also your eyes as everything they serve looks amazing. Quite popular for its raw desserts, shakes, and salads, this is a great restaurant to visit during you Skopje adventure. Directions for Vega Fresh Bar
Vegetarian Juice and Salad Bars (with Some Vegan Options)
Juicy and Co – This is a vegetarian juice and salad bar that offers mostly vegetarian options, but also some vegan stuff too. Things you can find on Juicy and Co menu include fruit salads, raw balls, muesli bowls and, naturally, various fresh juices as well as smoothies. Directions for Juicy and Co (2nd Floor)
GO Healthy – Just like Juicy and Co, GO Healthy is a vegetarian salad bar, raw bar, juice bar and a vegan-friendly spot. Specialties one can try at GO Healthy include wraps, salads, toasts, and sandwiches. Some coffee options come with almond, cashew or soy milk; so that’s another reason to pay this place a visit too. Vitalia Muesli Bar – Anyone living in Skopje has heard about Vitalia. Vitalia is a reputable brand that focuses on the production of healthy food. Hence, it doesn’t come as a little surprise that their Vitalia Muesli Bar is a heaven for anyone looking for healthy food options, some of which are vegan too. Vegan Fast Food Options
Freshys – Freshys is a place to get a nice soup or grab a sandwich. This place offers both vegan and raw options, plus it has a really socially responsible business model. Therefore, if you want to promote a local business that gives back to the community, this is the place to do so. Directions for Freshys
Burger Friends – With a fairly large variety of meat burgers, Burger Friends may not be the first option to vegans in Skopje. However, I’ve heard that among the options there are one or two vegan burgers that are quite delicious. Directions for Burger Friends
Chinese Fast Food Star Ocean – Star Ocean is not only a fast food chain but a restaurant as well near the city center. The fast food chains are located in the two main shopping malls, City Mall and Ramstore. They offer several vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Resturants with Mixed Food
Karma Indian Kitchen & Bar – Love Indian cusine? Karma is the perfect place for vegetarians! It’s a great place to share dinner with someone that not-vegetarian, since they provide both options. Also, it’s only a few feet from the city square by the statue of “Alexandar the Great”. Directions for Karma Indian Kitchen & Bar
La Puerta and/or Amigos Mexican Cantina – These Mexican food restaurants both offer delicious vegan food in Skopje. Those craving for a true Mexican bite should definitely pay either or both of them a visit.

Damaskino – Damaskino is an Arabian Restaurant, which is located in the city center. One of their specialties is falafel, which actually is a vegan dish. Even though other dishes served at Damaskino aren’t vegan or vegetarian, the falafel itself is more than enough of a reason to go there. Directions for Damaskino
Star Ocean Chinese Restaurant –As mentioned earlier in that fast food section, Star Ocean is a Chinese restaurant that, among other dishes, offers several vegan options too. I’ve tried their rice with mushrooms, but there are other dishes to try too. Directions for Star Ocean Chinese Restaurant
Orthodox Fasting and Vegan Food
I would like to point out that the majority of the population in Skopje and North Macedonia is Eastern Orthodox Christian and many of the people are practicing Christians, meaning they fast several times throughout the year. According to the Orthodox religion, when people are fasting they cannot eat meat, eggs, dairy products and some dates even cooking oil is off-limits.
In other words, even places that don’t specialize in vegan or vegetarian food often offer such options. Thus, if you go anywhere and just ask for something “posno” (that can be eaten while you are fasting), you will probably get plenty of options offered by the waiter. Also, if you are grocery shopping look for items marked “posno” to know it’s vegan and vegetarian safe.
