The ‘Old South’ is rural and conservative, while the ‘New South’ is urban and liberal, and is home to a range of wanders, new-age farmers, and hipsters. From the incredible mountains on one side of the state to the beautiful coast that lines the other side of the state, the communities of North Carolina are wonderfully diverse. One of these well developed and upcoming areas in North Carolina is the city of Greensboro.

During the warmer summer months when school is out, this region is filled with travelers from across the globe, all looking for rest and recuperation dotted with fun and adventure. What’s fantastic about this state is the fact it has something for everyone, from a wide selection of adventures like off-road cycling, river rafting and rock climbing to some incredible cities just waiting to be explored.

Greensboro is the ideal destination for a summer vacation, whether you’re traveling with friends or family. The third largest city in North Carolina, this city has a lot to offer its visitors, from museums and art galleries to outdoor activities to the famous Greensboro Ghost Tour, there’s plenty to see and do here.

Two of the most popular museums are the Greensboro Science Center and the Greensboro Historical Museum. The Greensboro Science Center is a great place to visit with your kids. Not only does it have red pandas and sharks, but it’s a hands-on museum. There are plenty of exhibitions and events to educated your kids and keep them happy and entertained. 

Free things to do in Greensboro

As mentioned before, the Greensboro Arboretum gardens are incredible. The best part about it is that it is a free public garden and park. In the arboretum, you can go for a walk and enjoy the very nicely gardened landscape, plants, and flowers free of charge. The property holds multiple plant collections and gardens in 17-acres of property, making sure you have plenty to see and explore.

The Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden is another free garden location to visit. The garden is not only a favored and relaxing retreat, but it also has statues through the land. 

The Bog Garden is not only a botanical garden, but a part of Benjamin Park. Of course, the admission is free, making a great place to visit and enjoy nature. Bog Garden even has a small waterfall! 

Even though the museums are not free, the Greensboro Science Center offers a membership package that will allow its members to visit it free of charge whenever they want. Members also get a discounted price for their companions. Members get free admission to over 300 ASTC facilities, and even get up to 50% off to several AZA/ASTC facilities in North Carolina and Virginia. 

Other attractions

In addition to plenty of museums, art galleries and gardens, Greensboro is also home to a range of other just as exciting attractions. These include the Pig Pounder Brewery, a microbrewery that creates specialist British beers, the Antique Market Place, an antique lover’s dream, The Greensboro Ice House, a year-round ice ring that skaters of all abilities can enjoy, and Celebration Station, an exciting and exhilarating theme park designed to suit family members of every age.

Greensboro has a wide variety of restaurants to grab your attention. The Lindley Park Filling Station offers great American dishes with outdoor seating to make your dinner or lunch even more memorable. If breakfast is your thing, then the Scrambled Southern Diner has you covered. It not only serves tasty, fulfilling breakfast dishes, but it’s there if you need lunch as well, and it has a great selection of regional draft beers. And, if you are into family-friendly, quick-bite dinners then the Spring Valley Restaurant is for you. 

Nightlife in Greensboro

Greensboro might not be New York City, but it’s not short of its own nightlife. From college hangouts to karaoke nights, there is plenty to choose from when going out. 

Limelight is a popular college hangout with a cool ambiance. It’s very popular among the young crowd, and the drinks are not on the high-end which everyone loves. If singing is your thing, give Club Orion a try. Not only does it have karaoke, but affordable drinks as well. If you are into nightclubs then Chemistry should be on your going-out list. 

Further, Will Vaughn’s Lounge has free entry and awesome music selection. However, if playing pool is your thing then go to Shooters Sports Bar & Billiards on High Point Rd. The nightlife in Greensboro is not short of comedy clubs, hookah bars, dive bars, and arcade bars similar to Dave & Busters. 

Greensboro in North Carolina has so much to offer its visitors, it’s a great place to stay and explore.
