Gorgeous weather, incredible wildlife, stunning terrain and tons of southern charm- a trip to the ‘deep south’ of America is not to be missed. Forget New York, California, and Hawaii- as lovely as these popular tourist destinations are, your next adventure could be something a little different.
The deep south is generally classed as Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Texas and South Carolina, and a road trip is perhaps the best way to experience this interesting part of America. Here are a few things to bear in mind.
The first thing you will want to do when planning your deep south road trip is deciding what route you will take. You could travel through all of the southern states or just a few of them. You could go north to south, east to west or vice versa.
There are pre-planned routes you can follow along with, or you could create your own, but whatever you decide on this should be the first thing you do. Everything else can then be planned from there.
Once you have decided on your route, you can work out which attractions you will pass and which you will want to see. You could go to Congaree national park in South Carolina, Disney in Orlando, visit Jackson Square in Louisiana and so much more.
Each state has so much to offer, even those that are less visited by tourists will have plenty to do and see. With the gorgeous landscapes and scorching southern weather, you’re bound to have the best time no matter what you do.
If you’re road tripping in an RV then you can stay anywhere, as long as it’s safe and legal. There are lots of campsites that offer hookups to water, electricity and even Wi-Fi so have a look at your route and mark the places where you could stay.
If you’re road tripping in a car then you will, of course, need a place to sleep. You could go to a nice hotel like the Hawthorn Suites By Wyndham Kingsland, or a budget motel, hostel or even take a tent and sleep at a campsite. Either way, you will, of course, need to have in mind where you will be laying your head each night.
America is well-known for its incredible food, but the south, in particular, has mouthwatering cuisine that you have to take advantage of during your trip. Biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, mac and cheese, fried chicken and southern BBQ will all feature on the menu. Hearty and truly delicious, be sure to do your research and hit up some food establishments that catch your attention.
Southern food generally isn’t expensive, however, there are of course high-end restaurants and hotels serving food so if you want a meal or two in five-star luxury then this is something you could budget for. Otherwise, chains, buffets, and cafes will have plenty to offer.
